Purpose
This course will enable persons in support operations with DP vessels and Dynamic Positioning Operators, to gain insight of DP functions, capabilities and fundamental elements required for Full DP system operation and Station-keeping. The course will not be considered as a first phase of the DP operator training scheme and the participant will not be allowed for future familiarization as a DPO.

Content
- Principles of DP
- Various elements of a DP system, including Position Reference system, sensors, power and state the requirements for redundancy including methods
- Principle, limitations and use of position reference systems
- Principle, limitations and use of sensors and ancillary equipment
- Typical power and distribution arrangements in diesel electric and non-diesel electric vessels. Describe UPS systems and typical PMS system. Recognize power requirements in DP vessels
- Various propulsion and thrusters system and compare them to each other
- Procedures to be followed in a DP operation, including planning using vessel and field info, contingency planning, checklists, worksite approach, communication, hand over
- Datum used and understand UTM coordinates
- Documentation and log book requirements
- Arrangements made for DP operations in specialist vessels
- Hazards associated with deep and shallow water operations
